Earth2 is a currently-being-developed metaverse.

If anyone ever has seen the movie called ‘Ready Player One’, that’s exactly it. Except that Earth 2 has not implemented 3D renderings and players cannot wear haptic motion gears yet. They released a teaser on youtube of how it would look like (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6Q07TXpjo8).

Visually astonishing graphics mesmerizes audience. It feels like being overdosed with happy drugs just by looking at it. On second thought, people may wonder if this is truly achievable. I mean, just watching the video get me thinking, ‘That’s going to need shit load of money’. I’ve talked to few IT guys that I know about developing and maintaining related servers and databases. They had the same impression that I had and concerned about raising funds to make things possible.

Earth2 guys found a way to do this.

Now Earth2 is in Phase 1. In Phase 1, Earth2 started selling virtual lands which are divided into 5.1 trillion tiles. Each tile has geolocation information provided by MapBox’s(https://www.mapbox.com/) digital map. The price of these tiles started very low, like $0.10, but it skyrocketed. The highest gain is more than +129,900%(Please see them with your eyes. https://earth2.io/).

Price is not completely market-dependent. Inflation is subject to demand and supply of tiles of each country region. The more tiles are purchased, the more price of tiles in that country will go up. At certain point, tiles of popular countries will be too expensive because the price increases exponentially(See Vatican for example).

If you are an early-adopter and jumped in faster than anyone, your tiles may worth more than you can imagine. It’s like you bought 1 BTC back in 2009, when first bitcoin transaction was taken place.

Speaking of which, people are calling it ‘next bitcoin’. Earth2 and bitcoin share the same idea of virtuality and price of both increased unbelievably. When first appeared, people thought bitcoin an assumed ‘scam’. But when people started putting a meaning to it , value was recognized and now, worth more than $50K as of 25, May 2021.

Value of things are determined by supply and demand. Cryptocurrency marketplace made this possible. Bitcoin is constantly being traded and value is recognized every second. Earth2 has also marketplace but works differently. It’s not very dynamic compared to cryptocurrency market.

Marketplace may not be very active or dynamic for many reasons; for-sale tiles are too damn expensive, wanted tiles are already purchased, or users want to keep land until “real service” is available and etc. It’s complicated.

Earth2 has intention to enable users to do something with tiles they purchased. Holding it until “real service” finally presented may be worthwhile. The question is whether Earth2 can actually pull this off; whether they can actually build fantastic virtual world that users are craving for.

Maybe it’s a huge scam. Maybe it’s a world-changing thing after the Internet. Either way, it’s pretty darn good one.

If you want to see how it turns out as I do, go to https://earth2.io/ and buy some of those tiles.
